Abstract
Our overall course design integrates into the TfU (Teaching for Understanding, Harvard University) and UbD (Understanding by Design, Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe) of Chinese Curriculum. We design an understanding-based activity of "The Small Campus Tour Guide" through a hybrid/ blended- approach to enhance students' competency of communication, Chinese language and ICT. The objectives of this course are mainly aimed at achieving the following three levels of learning:
- Chinese competency: Learning Chinese language using the authentic materials to reach the intermediate level (pre-advanced level);
- learning how to live: Using the theoretical methods and structure of TfU & UbD, and three communication modes to design classroom activities, this task-oriented language learning can help students to improve performance in daily life as well as their abilities of communication, understanding, planning, creativity and execution;
- learning how to learn: Learning how to learn by exploring / inquiring, self-directed using podcasting / vodcasting applications.
