Mother Tongue Languages Symposium 2023
Mother Tongue Languages Symposium 2023 was successfully held at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre on 26 August. This marked the first return to an in-person Mother Tongue Languages Symposium following the pandemic. Themed "Flourish in the Wonderland of Our Languages", the forum featured over 40 exhibition booths, nearly 45 sharing sessions and interactive workshops, as well as a variety of activities designed to ignite children's passion for learning their mother tongue.
As a community partner, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) showcased its latest "5E Add-on Children's Picture Books", "Unboxing the Treasured Memories" Graded Picture Book Series, and the text grading system. Dr Cheng Wan-Ni, SCCL Senior Lecturer, Dean of Early Childhood Care and Education, discussed with parents how to effectively use props and games to aid children in learning Chinese in an interactive workshop. Master Teacher Mr Zhou Enguo also delivered a lecture titled "Leveraging Children's Graded Readers to Promote Extra-curricular Reading in Lower and Middle Primary Grades", sharing reading instruction strategies and parent-child co-reading techniques with teachers and parents.
This forum provided a platform for parents and educators to share knowledge and exchange experiences, fostering the in-depth development of mother tongue education. Let us look forward to continuing our close collaboration with everyone in the future journey of mother tongue teaching, to create a rich and vibrant language learning environment.
