"Unboxing the Treasured Memories" Graded Picture Book Series
The COVID-19 pandemic has stopped the world in its tracks, but it cannot stop the enthusiasm for creative writing. The stories in the Unboxing the Treasured Memories Graded Picture Book Series are the winning entries of the "Creativity, No Boundaries!" National Children's Story Writing Competition held in 2021. These stories are submitted by local students and Chinese language enthusiasts, while the illustrations are created by local artists. As Associate Professor Tan Chee Lay, one of the judges of the competition, said, "The authors of the Series are all 'anti-pandemic' heroes who fought against the viruses and triumphed over isolation through devout reading and writing."
Specially commissioned for primary students in Singapore, the Series consists of 36 books, classified into 6 grades, 6 books for each grade. The stories in Grades One and Two are specially denoted with hanyu pinyin, making it easier for children to read. As the difficulty level increases across the levels, parents and teachers can select suitable books according to their children's reading proficiency and learning progress.
