Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policies

In line with Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL)'s Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) Tool Policy, Journal of Chinese Language Education (JCLE) recognises the use of Generative AI (“GenAI Tools”) in manuscript writing.

For Authors

    1. GenAI Tools may be used to support research and manuscript writing However, authors should disclose their use of GenAI Tools and abide by research ethics and uphold standards of academic integrity.
    2. In preparing a manuscript for JCLE, Authors may use GenAI Tools to improve readability and language of the work, but should not use GenAI Tools to generate original or core content.
    3. Authors should not list GenAI Tools as an author or co-author, nor cite GenAI Tools as an author.
    4. Authors should not use GenAI Tools to generate images.
    5. Authors should review and verify the accuracy of AI Generated content and check the sources to safeguard against inadvertent plagiarism and bias.

For Peer Reviewers

    1. During the reviewing process, the manuscript must be treated as a confidential document. Peer reviewers should not upload the manuscript to GenAI Tools in assisting evaluation.
    2. Peer reviewers must not use any GenAI Tool to generate review reports, nor upload the reports to any GenAI Tool.
    3. Where reviewers suspect misconduct related to the use of AI technologies, they should clearly describe the issue and the basis for their concerns in their review reports.

For Editors

    1. Editors shall treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential and shall not upload any manuscript or any of its content containing personally identifiable information to any GenAI tool.
    2. GenAI Tools should not be used by editors to assist in the evaluation or decision-making process of a manuscript.
    3. Editors may use GenAI Tools to assist in identifying relevant reviewers.
