Assoc Prof Leung Wai Mun from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Visited SCCL

        Assoc Prof Leung Wai Mun from the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) visited the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) from 15 March to 15 May 2024. Assoc Prof Leung is also the programme leader of the Master of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature (MACLL) and research fellow of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) at PolyU. During her visit to SCCL, Assoc Prof Leung had in-depth exchange with SCCL lecturers, master teachers and research team. She learned about the various training courses offered by SCCL, such as in-service teacher training courses, pre-school education courses, and professional courses on teaching Chinese as a second language. The focus of the exchange included the course design concepts, teaching materials and methodologies, design of assessment and effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. Assoc Prof Leung also explored SCCL teaching and research resources such as SCCL library collection, etc.

        On 19 April 2024, Assoc Prof Leung gave a talk entitled "Textbook Evolution: Comparative Analysis of Mainstream Chinese Textbooks in Hong Kong Primary Schools and Personalised Learning Supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI)". She comparatively analysed the compilation of three sets of mainstream textbooks in Hong Kong, and demonstrated how to use AI to adjust the teaching objectives, content activities and assessment methods of mainstream textbooks to adapt to the second language learning requirements of South Asian primary students, who are the minority ethnic in Hong Kong.

Assoc Prof Leung Wai Mun gave a talk during her visit to SCCL
