SCCL Staff Invited as Speaker

         On 28 November 2024, Dr Zhang Limei, Dean of Academic Affairs of the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, was invited to participated in a Lecture & Talk Series on Chinese Language Teaching organised by the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and delivered an academic talk entitled "Engaging Students in Effective Feedback: Theory and Practice".

         Principal Master Teacher Dr Zheng Yingjiang was invited to participate in the Picture Book Reading Training Programme for Early Childhood Educators organised by the National Library Board. From 28 September 2024 to 22 February 2025, Dr Zheng conducted three mentoring sessions and provided preschool teachers with effective, flexible and practical strategies for guided reading of picture books.

1. Dr Zhang Limei, Dean of Academic Affairs

         On 28 November 2024, Dr Zhang Limei, Dean of Academic Affairs of the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, was invited by the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies (CBS) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to deliver an academic speech entitled "Engaging Students in Effective Feedback: Theory and Practice" for its Chinese Language Education Lecture & Talk series. Dr Zhang observed that engaging students in effective feedback will help to enhance their academic performance. In her speech, Dr Zhang took writing as an example to elaborate on (1) how to make effective use of automated corrective feedback tools, and (2) how to develop students' feedback literacy through teaching strategies.

         Teacher and student participants from the CBS responded enthusiastically and indicated that they found the talk tremendously helpful.

2. Dr Zheng Yingjiang, Principal Master Teacher

         Organised by the National Library Board (NLB) and co-organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), the first Picture Book Reading Training Programme for Early Childhood Educators concluded on 22 February 2025. The training programme lasted for six months. A total of 19 preschool Chinese teachers were awarded the 2025 Gold and Silver medals and won the title of "Preschool Picture Book Reading Advocator".

        Principal Master Teacher Dr Zheng Yingjiang was invited to participate in the training programme. From 28 September 2024 to 22 February 2025, Dr Zheng conducted a total of three mentoring sessions held at the NLB and provided preschool teachers with effective, flexible and practical strategies for guided reading of picture books. She accompanied the preschool teachers along the way, guiding them to share and reflect on their personal experiences of guided reading to children during the six-month learning period, and had successfully inspired their enthusiasm for nurturing the next generation of Chinese language readers.
