This index features sentence-types and sentence-patterns selected from the Singapore Students Daily Written Chinese Corpus. This index contains 4 sentence-types, namely declarative, interrogative, exclamatory and imperative sentences; Sentence-patterns consists of 158 patterns, which are broadly categorised as simple sentences and complex sentences, and are sub-categorised into categories such as Simple Subject-Predicate sentences, progressive complex sentences and adversative complex sentences. In addition, this index also includes 27 special sentence-patterns which are divided into special predicate and interrogative patterns, such as ba-construction, bei-construction and possessive construction.

This index is a deliverable of a baseline study carried out by SCCL. It is prefaced by Professor Tao Hongyin, Professor Liu Yongbing and Associate Professor Zhu Xinhua, all of whom acknowledge its contribution to Singapore Chinese language teaching and even the teaching of Chinese as a first language. With the launch of this index, Singapore Chinese teachers and researchers will have a list of sentence types specially compiled for their professional use. It can further serve as a reference for the preparation of teaching materials.
