Recently, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) was honored to invite two overseas experts to deliver lectures on the topic of AI technology in Chinese language education. Prof Jiao Jianli from South China Normal University led a lecture titled "Generative AI Empowering Teachers" on 21 February, while Dr Lien Yujen, Principal of ViewSonic College, offered his insights in a presentation titled "Chinese Education Thinking and Practice in the GenAI Era" on 12 March. Each session was well-received, drawing an audience of over 50, including Master Teachers, lecturers, researchers, curriculum officers and teacher leaders etc. from SCCL, the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, the Mother Tongue Languages Branch, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education (MOE) and MOE schools. These discussions explored the vast potential and challenges associated with incorporating generative AI into Chinese language teaching. 

        In addition to their lectures, both Prof Jiao and Dr Lien conducted separate online sharing sessions, attracting close to 400 teachers. These sessions provided an opportunity for them to disseminate their professional expertise broadly. Prof Jiao made visits to several primary and secondary schools, engaging directly with teachers and conducting workshops to further enrich their pedagogical practices. Similarly, Dr Lien conducted a training course for teachers at a primary school. The contributions from both experts have significantly deepened the understanding of the incorporation of GenAI into classroom teaching among educators and have strengthened the connection between theory and practice.
