The 5th Joint Seminar Co-organised by SCCL and EdUHK

         The fifth "Joint Seminar by Famous Chinese Education Scholars" co-organised by Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) and The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) was held on 17 October 2024. The speakers were Dr Cheung Tsz Mei, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) at EdUHK, and Dr Luo Qingming, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE). This seminar was conducted online and hosted by Dr Liao Xian, Associate Professor of the Department of CHL at EdUHK.

         The title of Dr Cheung's speech was "An Attempt to Assist Primary School Students in Self-learning Picture Books with Extended Reality Technology (XR)". Dr Cheung demonstrated how to use interesting electronic picture books to teach students different reading strategies and autonomous learning theories and utilise extended reality technology to help students build their autonomous learning ability in reading.

         The title of Dr Luo Qingming's speech was "The Evolution and Innovation of Singapore's Chinese Curriculum". With a detailed analysis of the Singapore Chinese Curriculum Standards and Syllabuses as well as Chinese education reports and textbooks, Dr Luo endeavoured to sort out the development trajectory and reasons for the evolution of Singapore's Chinese curriculum from multiple dimensions.

         More than 70 colleagues from EdUHK, SCCL, NIE, and Ministry of Education participated in the joint online seminar.
