Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) was honoured to invite Dr Jonathon Reinhardt from University of Arizona to conduct a seminar and an online professional sharing session on 14-15 May 2025.

        The seminar, titled "Beyond the Classroom, Into the Future: Levelling Up Language Learning Through Play and Digital Literacy Practice", brought together around 40 lecturers, researchers, Master Teachers from SCCL, officers from the Mother Tongue Languages Branch, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education, lecturers from National Institute of Education, and teacher leaders from various schools. Dr Reinhardt shared his insights on how gameful approaches and informal digital environments are reshaping language education. He also outlined emerging research trends and frameworks in the field, inspiring educators to harness the power of play in language learning.

        The online professional sharing session, titled "Levelling Up Language Learning: Gameful Approaches and Digital Literacies in the L2 Classrooms", focused on language learning practices beyond formal settings. Over 80 teachers participated. Dr Reinhardt introduced to the participants new theories on digital literacies and post-structural identity, and examined how these ideas can support language learning across diverse contexts.

        Essentially, the seminar and online sharing session have invited educators to level up language education by expanding their views of where, how, and why learning happens.
