The night of 28th September 2012 saw a party organized by Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival. This was also a night for the Centre to express her appreciation to over thirty schools collaborating with the SCCL in the past two years. The celebration and appreciation party was graced by Ms Chan Lai Fung, Permanent Secretary (Education Policy) for Ministry of Education, Singapore, who was the Guest of Honour of the night. Principals and teacher representatives from the collaborating schools were invited to attend the event.
Dr. Chin Chee Kuen, Executive Director of SCCL, gave the opening speech, followed by a video presentation specially made for this occasion to brief the guests on the development of SCCL research projects with collaborating schools.
In her speech, Ms Chan Lai Fung congratulates SCCL on her remarkable progress in the past three years since her foundation. Already, SCCL has developed 26 pedagogy courses from the school-based research projects she has completed. SCCL teaching packages and materials such as "What's New?-Newspaper in Education Guidebook", "Oral Proficiency Diagnostic Tool (OPDT) Teaching Packages" and "CLB Multimedia Resources" have been widely used in Singapore schools. The number of SCCL courses, teaching packages and materials is increasing by the years. Ms Chan believes this demonstrates the growing influence of SCCL as a research centre for Chinese language teaching.
Ms Chan Lai Fung also presented on behalf of SCCL a token of appreciation to the representatives from the schools for their unwavering support. With the continued support of schools, SCCL aspires to advance researches in Chinese pedagogy and further enhance the standard of Chinese Language teaching in Singapore.
Before the commencement of the dinner, four students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts staged a performance of Chinese music. The festive tunes, with a tinge of gentle timbre, melodic sensation and great expressiveness, mesmerized the audience.
In the convivial atmosphere, all the guests were joyous, interacting with collaborating researchers from SCCL. The evening concluded with SCCL's expression of gratitude to all collaborating school principals and teachers and call for more collaboration in future, producing more fruits in the field of Chinese Language teaching and research.
