vol16 coverstory

The Journal of Chinese Language Education (JCLE) is a highly recognized educational journal in Singapore, on par with the top journals in China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. It has a basic readership of close to 2000, including local Chinese language teachers, as well as professors, Chinese language experts and researchers from Southeast Asia, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Established in 2003, JCLE was originally published by the Singapore Chinese Language Teachers' Union. In 2009, the editorial duties of JCLE were taken over by the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, which has since worked steadily to raise the academic status of the journal.

In 2012, JCLE was recognized by the College of International Studies and Education for Overseas Chinese, National Taiwan Normal University, as a high impact academic and professional journal for the assessment of their academic staff. The professional standing of JCLE was further established in January 2014 when it was officially included in the list of journals under the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (Overseas) (2014-2015).

Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index, or CSSCI in brief, was developed by the Nanjing University, China. Journals listed in the CSSCI are all top academic journals in the field, having vigorously reviewed by leading experts. For evaluation and promotion of the academic and professional achievements of their teaching and research staff, many prestigious universities and institutes in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong recognize the research papers that appear in CSSCI journals as top-tier journal papers.

The inclusion of JCLE in the CSSCI speaks volumes of its high professional status.
