New Staff Profile

 

1. New Staff

4 new members have joined SCCL. They are Mr. Tan Kiak Seng, Mr. Lim Yee Pin, Dr. Zhang Limei and Mr. Tan Yuh Huann.

Mr Tan Kiak Seng

Before joining SCCL, Mr. Tan Kiak Seng was a Superintendent at MOE and the Deputy Director at CPDD. He had been the principal of Serangoon Garden Secondary and Victoria Secondary, and the Deputy Director at Victoria Junior College. He had also been a Head of Department (Mother Tongue) and a Chinese teacher. Mr Tan is currently a Consultant for Strategic Planning and Development at SCCL.

Mr. Lim Yee Pin

Mr. Lim Yee Pin has been appointed as a Master Teacher since the beginning of this year. He is currently Deputy Dean of Curriculum, SCCL. Prior to his appointment at SCCL, Mr Lim had been a Head of Department for Mother Tongue and Pastoral Care & Career Guidance for 17 years. He was once the Chairman of Cluster W6 MTL Support Group and Cluster W2 PCCG/PW Support Group. Mr Lim obtained his Master in Education from Nanyang Technological University. He has also a diploma in Departmental Management, and a graduate diploma in Personnel Management.

Dr. Zhang Limei

Dr. Zhang Limei graduated from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. Her research interests include language assessment, bilingualism and translation. She is currently a Teaching Fellow at the SCCL.

Mr. Tan Yuh Huann

Mr. Tan Yuh Huann has two Master degrees, one from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and the other from Fudan University (Shanghai, China). He has been seconded from Ministry of Education to SCCL as a Teaching Fellow with effect from January 2014. His research interests include Computer-assisted language learning (CALL), Computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL), knowledge creation, and personal epistemology.

Under the internship programmes between the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) and several overseas universities, the SCCL receives 7 students in February this year. The 7 students, from Jinan University, East China Normal University and National Hsinzhu University of Education respectively, would participate in various research projects.

From Jinan University are Ms. Liu Li and Ms. Luo Hanyu. Liu Li was a teacher from the College of International Education, South China Agricultural University, where she taught elementary and advanced Chinese. She has written for the renowned magazine Times Literature (Shidai wenxue). Hanyu is currently pursuing her master's degree, majoring in the teaching of Chinese as an international language. She has been an intern at the Office of Graduate Studies and Researches, Jinan University.

Interns coming from East China Normal University (ECNU) are Ms. Gong Liyuan and Ms. Huang Xiaoyue. Liyuan was a teacher with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Study Centre at Shanghai, hosted by ECNU. She taught Chinese for the "CIEE-in-Shanghai" programme. Xiaoyue taught Chinese at the Shanghai Campus of the EMLYON Business School (Ecole de Management de Lyon) located at the ECNU. She was also was a teacher with the UVA in Shanghai Intensive Chinese Language Programme (UVA in Shanghai Programme), which is run by the University of Virginia (UVA) and hosted by ECNU. She also taught Chinese at the Donghua University for a period.

Three interns come from National Hsinchu University of Education, namely, Ms. Shih An-Hsin, Ms. Chen Hsiao-Hsuan and Ms. Hung Chia-Chun. An-Hsin has received trainings in the Chinese Language Teaching Capabilities through Internet Programme sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China (Taiwan). She was an intern at Thai-Chinese International School in 2012. She was also a Chinese teacher under the "Language Study Programme for Expatriate Youth" run by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), Taiwan. Hsiao-Hsuan taught Chinese for an Overseas Chinese Youth Summer Course organized by the OCAC in 2012. Chia-Chun has similar experiences teaching Chinese to foreigners. She tutored Chinese language at Hsinchu Foreigner Assistance Center as a volunteer for a year in 2013.

The seven interns will take part in various research projects at the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language. SCCL wishes them a fruitful learning experience and an enjoyable time in Singapore.
