Publication: NTU-SCCL Press, 2016
"Come, Let's Celebrate! Preschool Teaching Activities for Festivals of Singapore" provides lesson plans on the topic of festivals celebrated by diverse ethnic groups in Singapore. It proposes a framework and approach to design and implement classroom activities concerning these festivals. The lesson plans are designed based on general knowledge and several guiding values as defined in the field of early childhood education. Other than succinct background information on the festivals, the lesson plans also give suggestions on various teaching activities. Early childhood teachers can modify and extend these activities based on the ages and abilities of the children they are teaching. Suggested teaching activities for a specific festival can also be modified and used for other festivals.
In addition, this book comes with a set of teaching tools titled "Come, Let's Celebrate! Preschool Teaching Resources for Festivals of Singapore", which are linked to the thirteen festivals covered in the lesson plans. The tools include six medium-sized backdrops and four large-sized backdrops that can be used as classroom decorations. Approximately a hundred elements are included in the tools that can be used for story-telling, role-playing and language games.
