National Creative Story Writing Competition for Secondary Students a Tremendous Success

In an effort to promote local Chinese literary writing and cultivate student's interest in learning Chinese, Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) and the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) co-organised the National Creative Story Writing Competition for Secondary Students. Approximately 400 students from over 50 schools took part in the competition held on 31 August 2019 at Nanyang Girls' High School. The participants were encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to write original stories which were interesting and rich in emotions.

The competition consisted two sections: on the spot competition for students and online submission for public. For the student category, there were 3 groups: Secondary 1-2, Secondary 3-5, and Centralised Institutes / Junior College. For the open category, opened to other Singaporeans and permanent residents, participants were required to submit their entries via online submission.

The results have been announced at SCCL Website in early November 2019. Prize winners will each receive a trophy, a certificate and cash vouchers as rewards. A total of 36 distinguished and outstanding entries were selected. Winning entries will be published as a series of Chinese graded readers. Complimentary sets of the graded readers will be distributed to all Singapore secondary schools so as to encourage the reading of Chinese books among the students.
