In May 2025, the exchange group from the Master of Education in Teaching Chinese as an International Language Programme, School of Education and Languages, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), visited the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) under the leadership of Programme Leader Dr Lam Man Fong Cindy, and Senior Lecturer Dr Ng Hung Wai Rex. The purpose of the visit was to enhance the students' knowledge of teaching Chinese language as an international language, improve their teaching competencies in this area, as well as to promote communication and exchange between the students and international students. Colleagues from the SCCL warmly received the group and arranged a series of activities for the exchange group.

        On the morning of 6 May, Singapore Principal Master Teachers (PMT) Dr Zheng Yingjiang and Dr Kwek Siew Hoon, who possessed rich classroom practice and teacher training experience, conducted an in-depth sharing with the exchange group on the theme of "Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in the Singapore Context", aimed at providing the students with a glimpse into the real situation of student learning and teacher instruction in Singapore. Both PMTs not only delved into curriculum design but also candidly exchanged views with the students on the challenges faced by both students and teachers in teaching Chinese as a second language. Later in the day, the exchange group experienced a workshop titled "AI Teaching Boosters: Unleash Your Classroom Magic" led by SCCL Lecturer Dr Han Yiting.

        On 7 May, the exchange group attended the sixth "Joint Seminar by Famous Chinese Education Scholars", jointly organised by SCCL and The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). The seminar focused on "Chinese Language Learning in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts". Faculty and students from both institutions engaged in academic exchange. The keynote speakers were Professor Leung Pui Wan and Assistant Professor Chan Chu Kwong from EdUHK, as well as Dr Lin Jinzhan, Head of the Research Department of SCCL.

        In the following days, under the guidance of Dr Zhang Limei, SCCL Dean of Academic Affairs and Dr Gong Cheng, SCCL Lecturer, the exchange group jointly explored the relationship between Chinese popular culture and internet culture and second language teaching through the workshop "Chinese Popular Culture and Internet Culture".

        In addition, the group also visited the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, and engaged in discussions with the faculty and students of the Master of Arts in Teaching Chinese as an International Language programme.

       The exchange group also visited the Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU), and discussed the prospects of Chinese language education in Southeast Asia with Executive Director Dr Neo Peng Fu.

        This exchange promoted cooperation between Singapore and Hong Kong in the field of Chinese language education and provided valuable opportunities for faculty and students of HKMU to understand the practice of Chinese language teaching in Singapore. We look forward to deepening cooperation with HKMU in the future to jointly promote the development of international Chinese language education.
