To provide Singapore Chinese language teachers more channels to learn the latest Chinese language teaching strategies and ideas and promote international exchanges in Chinese language teaching, Singapore Centre for Chinese Language and the Department of Chinese as Second Language of the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) jointly launched a short-term training programme for Singapore Chinese language teachers.
The four-day intensive training programme was held from 10 to 13 June at the Extension School of Continuing Education of the National Taiwan Normal University. There was a total of 58 participants. It comprised seven courses of three categories, namely professional Chinese Language teaching courses, special topics in Chinese linguistics, and panel discussions. It provided participants with an invaluable learning experience, and had received highly positive feedbacks from participants.
For the successs of the programme, credits must first be given to Dr Chin Chee Kuen, dirctor of SCCL, and Professor Chin-Chin Tseng, the head of the Department of Chinese as Second Language, NTNU, who jointly proposed the programme. The support of the Ministry of Education, Taiwan, the assitance and careful planning of Ms Peng Aiyun of NTNU, as well as the warm hospitality of freinds from Taiwan also contributed to the programme's success. Mr Ang Swee Choon, team leader of the delegation, believes that this is just the first step towards more exchanges between the two institutes.
