Graduation Ceremony of the Master of Education Programme jointly organised by the Faculty of Education of Hong Kong University and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language

The Master of Education (Teaching & Learning of Chinese Language) graduation ceremony for the first batch of graduates was held on 15 March 2014 at the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language. Jointly organised by the Hong Kong University (HKU) and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL), the two-year part time Master programme focuses on teaching and learning, curriculum design, assessment and educational research. It aims to prepare the graduands to be informed practitioners in the classroom and future leaders in educational research.

Professor Stephen Andrews, Dean of HKU Faculty of Education, came to Singapore specially for the presentation of degree scrolls to the graduates.

The Guest of Honour is Mr Sng Chern Wei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCCL and Director of Curriculum Planning & Development Division, MOE. In his speech to the graduates, Mr Sng observed that this master programme is an important avenue for our Chinese Language teachers to up-skill themselves in the teaching of Chinese for improving the standards of teaching and learning of the Chinese language in Singapore.

Two graduates, Ms Li Jingxin and Ms Tay Boon Pei, were awarded distinctions. They are currently researchers at the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language.

The second and third batches, of 20 and 24 teachers respectively, will attend lessons during the March, June and September holidays at SCCL and Hong Kong University alternatively. Besides attending lessons in a traditional classroom, students will also make full use of modern technology to carry out their learning & research over the internet.

In the afternoon of the same day, the HKU Education Faculty also conducted a course information session on the programme. Participants, many of whom school teachers, were all enthusiastic. There was good interaction between the participants and SCCL Executive Director Dr Chin Chee Kuen as well as Prof. Stephen Andrews and Prof. Tse Shek Kam of the University of Hong Kong.
