Cultural Forum
Getting children to learn and love Chinese takes conscious efforts. It requires parents, caregivers and teachers to change their mindset and attitudes, adopting various approaches and methods, for example, integrating stories, games and other fun activities into language learning to engage children.
For this, Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) organized a cultural forum on November 15, 2014. The centre invited Ms Priscilla Wong, a veteran ex-broadcaster, teacher and founder of a language school, and Dr Angel Lin, lecturer of SCCL, as the forum speakers. Both speakers shared many ideas and techniques on how to better engage children in learning Chinese in the daily routine.

Some of the strategies include using picture books and props. Teachers and parents who attended the talk enjoyed the stories by Ms Priscilla Wong and practical tips by Dr Angel Lin. The cultural forum ended on a high note with great exchanges of ideas between participants and speakers and it was well-received by the audience with resounding feedback.
