SCCL Staff Invited as Speaker
SCCL Executive Director Dr Foo Suan Fong and SCCL Lecturer Dr Wu Yung-Sen were invited to attend China-Singapore Preschool Education Seminar organised by The China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Centre for Young People and Singapore Huaxia Culture Hub to deliver a speech on 5-6 December 2019. On 16-18 December 2019, SCCL Lecturer Dr Liu May was invited as a guest speaker for the "The 7th International School Chinese Language Education Conference and Workshop" organised by the Chinese Language Teachers' Association of Victoria and Wesley College, Melbourne.
1. Dr Foo Suan Fong and Dr Wu Yung-Sen
Dr Foo Suan Fong, SCCL Executive Director, and Dr Wu Yung-Sen, SCCL Lecturer, were invited to give a speech on "Introduction of Singapore Early Childhood Education and Kindergarten Teacher in-service Training" at the China-Singapore Preschool Education Seminar on 5-6 December 2019. The seminar was organised by The China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Centre for Young People and Singapore Huaxia Culture Hub.
The speech focuses on how Singapore strives to improve the quality of early childhood education. Reinforced by its overall planning of early childhood education and social welfare policies, Singapore has successfully expanded related programmes for inclusive kindergartens. As a result, all children have the opportunity to access high quality and affordable early childhood education.
Analyses and discussions were around the current situation of preschool education in Singapore, focusing on management and training systems for preschool teachers.

2. Dr Liu May
SCCL Senior Lecturer, Dr Liu May was invited as a guest speaker for "The 7th International School Chinese Language Education Conference and Workshop" organised by the Chinese Language Teachers' Association of Victoria and Wesley College, Melbourne , on 16-18 December 2019. Dr Liu May gave a presentation on "Primary Students' Cultural Learning in Singapore". From a macro perspective, the presentation overviews and compares the six major cultural themes of the AP® Chinese Curriculum, AP® test types and its previous examination questions, as well as the cultural contents in the Happy Companions (Huanle Huoban) textbooks in Singapore. It aims to enhance teachers understanding of the concept of culture and cross-culture and, in turn, enable them to deepen students' cultural and intercultural learning.
