The 2nd Online Joint Seminar Co-organised by SCCL and EdUHK
To promote Chinese Language education research and academic exchange and communication between Singapore and Hong Kong, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL), the Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE) and the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) co-organised the 2nd virtual joint seminar on 3 March 2022. The topic of the joint seminar is "Chinese Language Learning in Multilingual and Multicultural Context".
The joint seminar was hosted by Dr Lin Jinzhan from SCCL, and the two speakers were Dr Fan Jinghua (SCCL) and Dr Liao Xian (EdUHK). Dr Fan gave a lecture titled "From Chinese Language Oral Proficiency Diagnosis to Targeted Teaching of Oral Chinese". He gave an introduction on how to conduct diagnostic analysis on second language learners' oral proficiency, and how to implement targeted teaching of oral Chinese. Dr Liao shared his study titled "The Role of Executive Function in Chinese Language Learning: From Its Influence on the Pupils' Word Recognition to Start". He discussed the role of executive function in learning Chinese language, and shared some empirical research findings about the relationship between executive function and the Hong Kong pupils' Chinese word recognition.
There were 95 scholars and teachers from several institutions in Hong Kong and Singapore attending this joint seminar. It was the second seminar jointly organised by SCCL and EdUHK. The two parties will continue to co-host another seminar in the second half of 2022.
