Upcoming Event: 3rd International Conference on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language: "The Teaching of Chinese Language in a Multilingual Environment -- Innovative Practice, Transformative Learning"

The Singapore Centre for Chinese Language organized two successful international conferences on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) in 2009 and 2010. To further promote researches in CSL and build a platform for scholars and practitioners of Chinese language teaching to communicate ideas and share experiences, the Centre will continue to host the third international conference this year.
To be held from 12th to 13th September 2013, the Third International Conference on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language will be co-organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic. It is supported by Singapore Chinese Teachers' Union and Singapore Middle School Chinese Teachers' Association and sponsored by the Lee Foundation.
The main theme of the conference is "The Teaching of Chinese Language in a Multilingual Environment."
The highlights of the conference are as follows:
a) Keynote speakers
Internationally renowned scholars are invited to share their invaluable research findings in the teaching and learning of Chinese as a second language. The four invited keynote speakers are Professor Lu Jianming from the Peking University, Professor Cornelius C. Kubler from the Williams College, USA, Professor Tse Shek Kam from the University of Hong Kong, and Professor Wen Qiufang from the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
b) Symposiums
To cater for the varied needs of the participants, there will be three simultaneous symposiums, namely The Teaching Practice Symposium, the Academic Symposium and the Pre-School Symposium.
c) Pedagogical workshops
There will be five pedagogical workshops. The workshops aim to provide frontline teachers chances to interact with experts in the field and share their effective teaching practices.
d) Showcase of SCCL research projects
SCCL research projects will also be showcased.
Among the projects to be showcased are the Automated Essay Evaluation Portal, Self-Directed Learning Writing Portal, pre-school teaching aids, SCCL Flying-Fish Graded Readers Series, etc.

The first two international conferences have received wide media coverage and positive feedbacks. We are confident that the upcoming conference shall mark a new milestone for SCCL as she continues to strive for the enhancement of Chinese Language teaching and learning in Singapore.
