Heads of Department Focus Group Discussion 2016

Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) organised two sessions of Heads of Department (HOD) Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in 2016. The session for Secondary/Junior College/Centralised Institute HODs was held on 25 October, and the session for the Primary HODs took place on 7 November. The objectives of these FGDs were to disseminate training information in 2017, to share experiences on teachers' professional development among HODs, and to explore possible collaborations on the planning of training courses within the same school cluster. Dr Goh Saye Wee (Assistant Director, Chinese Language, Curriculum Planning & Development Division, MOE), Mr Tang Chun Chieh (HOD, Xinmin Secondary School), Mdm Yong Sheue Mei (HOD, CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School Primary Section), and Mr Er Kim Hoe (HOD, Zhenghua Primary School) made speeches on teachers' training at the sessions.

Following the talks were group discussions. The participants, consisting of HODs and school representatives from four school zones, shared about their strengths and challenges in planning teachers' training. The sessions provided opportunities for the participants to learn from one another and also to coordinate training programmes for the upcoming year. About 100 participants turned up at each session.
